A General physician or medical doctor is a professional who practices medicine, which is concerned with promoting, maintaining, or restoring health through the study, diagnosis, and treatment of disease, injury, and other physical and mental impairments.

One who completed Inter (10+2) with Bi.P.C (Biology, Physics, and Chemistry) are eligible and has to clear medical entrance examinations conducted by various educational institutions and universities to enter into this course in India.

This course usually involves 4-1/2 years which is divided into 3 phases and 9 semesters. After completing MBBS every student has to undergo 12 months of internship.

The GP diagnoses and treats a large variety of diseases and conditions, and has the option of referring certain conditions to a specialist for further investigation and management.

Mainly it involves the following medical systems:
1. Medicine (allopathy) and dentistry.
2. Homeopathy.
3. Ayurveda.
4. Unani.
5. Naturopathy.
